Madrid, June 8 .- The Secretary General of the Sea, Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) will close the fishery for anchovy in the Bay of Biscay from the 0.00 hours next Thursday June 10, according to informed the department in a statement.

The MARM reminded that the fishery for anchovy in the Bay of Biscay was, sto credits, reopened for the first time last March, with a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 7,000 tons, after encountering closed for several years because of the bad situation where was this resource.

According to an agreement between the fisheries administrations in Spain and France, it was established that the fishery for anchovy day beginning on March 1, with a stop but only for pelagic trawling during, gods and heroes gold, the months of April and May.

This agreement also includes, according to the ministry, the need to strengthen monitoring and control of the fishery by both countries to ensure "strict" compliance with fishing quotas allocated to each.

Of the 7,000 tonnes permitted, the Spanish fleet has had its 5,400 tonnes.

The Ministry has stressed that over the hood the Directorate General, sto credits, of Fisheries Resources and Aquaculture of the General Secretariat of the Sea has made a strict monitoring of catches and landings of anchovy by Spanish vessels.

In this way, said that yesterday sent to all associations representing the anchovy fishery in the Cantabrian-Northwest had exceeded 80 percent of the available quota for the Spanish fleet.

Therefore indicated that in view of the catch has been made in recent days and are not yet counted in the total consumption share, the situation of use of this quota, Spanish vessels are is very near to be achieved.

Ships on the closing date have not yet made the landing of anchovy, must inform the Directorate General of Fisheries and Aquaculture for the purpose of which is not considered as captured with date after closure of the fishery, a fact which would constitute a serious and punishable offense, according to the MARM. -Cantabria
